What missed calls cost your business.

Enter how many calls go unanswered in a normal week, how many of those callers would have booked, and what a job is usually worth to you. The calculator turns that into revenue lost per week, per month and per year.

Calls nobody answered and nobody returned in a normal week.

Your own booking rate, or lower if you are unsure.

The figures filled in are an example, not a typical value. Replace them with your own. Nothing you enter is saved or sent anywhere.

Revenue lost to missed calls

Per month
$4,333.33
Per year
$52,000.00
Per week
$1,000.00
Jobs lost per year
130

How it is calculated.

The same sum, in plain words.

Missed calls per week, times the share of those callers who would have booked, gives the jobs lost per week.

Jobs lost per week, times your average job value, gives the revenue lost per week. Times 52 gives the year, and the year divided by 12 gives the month.

Questions about this calculator.

How do I find out how many calls I miss?

Your phone carrier or business line usually lists missed and unanswered calls in its call log. Count a normal week rather than a holiday week or your slowest one. If you only have a rough idea, use a low number: the point is a figure you would stand behind, not the most alarming one.

What share of missed callers would have booked?

Use your own numbers. Look at the last twenty or so callers who did reach you and count how many became a job. Someone who hangs up on an unanswered call may be less ready to book than someone who got through, so if you are unsure, enter a lower share than your usual rate.

Does this include repeat business and referrals?

No. It counts the first job only, and it assumes nobody calls back. Some callers do try again, which lowers the cost. A customer who would have returned or referred a friend is worth more than one job, which raises it. Treat the result as a starting point, not a precise figure.
